Ive joined a Gym and Spin class

I have wanted to join a gym for a while now but couldn’t justify the price especially because I didn’t know if I would stick it out.  I last went to a gym when I was about 16 and use to tag along with my mum.  We stopped going as we didn’t have the time because of work shifts and as I couldn’t drive I didn’t want to get the bus there.  I wanted to join a gym not only to get healthy but also because exercise is recommended for depression.  I couldn’t miss the chance of joining a local gym when I found out it was only £10.99 a month, which includes classes, with no contract.  I knew the gym was nice as I have two friends that have also joined recently.   This is another positive to me as I am more likely to go when I am not on my own.  The gym is open 24/7 which is a great idea as obviously some people work shifts.  I mainly go once D gets home from work or on a Saturday after work.  I am considering going at 6.30am but I would have to make sure I got back in time for D going to work.

As the gym is 24hr it doesn’t have a reception as such.  On arriving you enter your pincode ,which I need to remember, and enter through a timelock tube like something out of startrek.  I did not like this one bit as I am claustrophobic  but luckily the tube is see-through so not as bad as it could have been.  The gym has a separate weight area which if I am honest scares me, I’m not sure why but I don’t like the idea of weights.

I have only done some Spin classes so far.  I am not going to lie to you after the first class I wasn’t sure if I liked it or not.  My whole body was aching and even two days later I was still in pain, even though, I still booked on to another spin class.  I wasn’t even sure I would be able to sit on the bike let alone move at the second class, as my bum was still bruised.  I managed the class though and I actually covered much future distance according the to computer on the bike.  At the first class I could barely stand up whilst peddling for more than a few seconds however at the second class I managed to do this.  It may not have been for as long as I was suppose to but it was a massive improvement.

I need to invest in some gym wear and shoes as I don’t think wearing lacy shoes helps peddling.   It is unbelievable the amount of energy you use and the amount of sweat dripping off you at the end of a 45 minute class.  The gym has an app that allows me to book classes up to 8 days in advance.  This lets you see the different classes,  schedules and the instructors that are holding the class.  The spin classes get booked up in advance so it is best to book as soon as I can.

I will keep you updated on how I am managing.

    Ah that’s such a good idea! I have a gym membership but I only use it for the swimming. I’ve been going at 6.45 am and getting home in time for my hubby to go to work. But a spin class once a week would do me the world of good.Thanks for giving me the idea and best of luck with your gym membership, I hope you enjoy it.xx
